on friday morning, max and i headed to the detroit zoo.
here we are in the parking ramp elevator, ready for an adventure.

the first place we headed was the reptile house.
there were snakes, lizards, turtles, alligators, crocodiles, frogs....
max thought this skink was pretty cool!
next we checked out some alligators (look at the bottom right corner!)
there was this metal tortoise outside of the reptile house.
max waited very patiently for a turn to sit on it.
i was very impressed with him in doing this. especially since three little girls totally disregarded him standing there waiting...and their mothers didn't seem to care either as they proceed to take about 25 pictures of the girls sitting on it together.

we saw the giraffes, they were beautiful.
there was even a lady who had a piece of giraffe hide that the kids could feel.
max thought it was pretty awesome.
he needed a break so we sat on a bench.
he really wanted to check out the map!

he was sooooo excited to see the zebras.
every time we saw one of these binocular things...he would pretend it was a camera and take my picture. that is what he's doing in this photo.
earlier in the day we had passed the carousel and he asked to go for a ride.
i told him if he was a good listener then we could on the way back.
and he was! we bought our ticket and waited in line for our turn.
he watched all the animals go around and around.

and what do you think he picked....
an EAGLE of course.
his second choice, in case the eagle was picked by someone else, was a bat.
the last thing we checked out was the butterfly house and the bird house.
max was determined to catch a butterfly.
at first he was running around chasing them. then i convinced him to hold out his finger instead.

it was a great morning...and it wore somebody out big time!
