disney vacation - day 4...

so, i hinted in the day 3 post, that we should have known something was up...
well, friday before we left, max had a few "bug bites" on his arm and back.  he had been doing yard work with grama that day, so i thought nothing of it.  saturday they looked the same, sunday there were a few more but he seemed fine and they literally looked like small bug bites.  monday night i called nurse direct and chatted it up with a very nice nurse and she said, give him benadryl, keep him happy, and not to worry.
well, that night he woke up crying and had a fever.  so we gave him some ibuprofen and all went back to sleep.  tuesday morning we woke up and realized that....
our little guy had the CHICKEN POX!!!!

seriously, on our long awaited vacation to disney and he breaks out in the pox.
he enjoyed his popsicles and we had a day of rest and by 5pm, he was back to normal.
and by back to normal i mean, he was ready to go.

we ventured to downtown disney and walked around,

had a great dinner at an irish pub,

listened to some live music,

saw some awesome lego displays,

and ventured into this awesome disney store.

now, i don't know about any of you, but disney might be the best place to have the chicken pox.
the heat helped the blisters dry up in record time.  he didn't really itch, his blisters didn't leak, and he only had a fever that one night.  now, i know, we probably should have stayed in our hotel, laid low and rested.  and we would have done that if max didn't feel good, but he was really his regular happy go lucky self and was ready to rock and roll.  we did our best to be very mindful of our surroundings and still managed to have an amazing trip.

disney vacation - day 3...

on monday we headed to animal kingdom.
this was our first time at this park and it was pretty impressive.
the entrance

the "tree of life"...amazing!

we discovered this carving while waiting in line for the bugs life 4d movie.
max chickened out at the last minute, so drew hopped in to have his pic taken.

i love this man! :)

after the bugs life show...which was actually kinda scary, we headed to go on our safari.

two "main mans"...ready to go see some animals.

thumbs up from our little tourist.
it was awesome how they really "recreated" africa on that safari ride.

we walked some trails after the safari and saw some more animals.

so, max hadn't really been hungry all day.
that should have been a sign to us that something was up...we thought it was just because he was overstimulated with everything around him.
we ate at a great restaurant called "the yak and the yetti" and we let max order an ice cream sundae for lunch but made sure to stress that it was only because we were on vacation! :)
after lunch it started raining and max and grama found a great place to stay dry while the storm passed.

a quick rain poncho family pic in front of "mt. everest."

max wanted his picture taken with this trex before we went to ride the "dinosaur" ride.
it was pretty intense.  max did great except he didn't like the last few dinosaurs because they were too loud.

we finished up our day with a ride on the triceratops which were pretty much the same as dumbo...

disney vacation - day 2...

we all woke up ready to go!
we made the drive from our hotel to the magic kingdom, got our parking pass and were told to "have a magical day!"
after taking the tram to the monorail, my excitement was boiling over.  i couldn't wait to walk through the gates, onto main street and see the castle.  here's max at the monorail.  he had no idea what was about to happen!!!
our first family picture at disney!  it would've been even better if max was looking at the camera! :)

we took in a quick show that took place in front of the castle.
and i'm pretty sure this is my favorite picture from the whole trip!

after the show, we headed to our first ride...
...buzz lightyear!
it was a blast...literally.  you rode around in these little spaceships and shot lazer beams at zurg and his minions.  max really enjoyed it!

next up, the speedway!
drew and hannah
max
ready to roll...and crazy to think that in 3 years she will really be able to drive!
i got to ride with max...i pushed the pedal and he steered the car!
we had teddy in front of us...
and uncle den right behind!
next up were the tea cups...

look at his face...i think he enjoyed this one too!
mom and i sat this one out!  i had woken up with a bad headache, so i thought spinning wasn't the best idea!

next up, was what i was most looking forward to that day...dumbo.
i remember riding that ride with my dad when i was little so i was excited to make that memory with max.
they had a new indoor, air conditioned waiting area.
awesome idea!  the kids get to play on the big top playground and the parents get to cool off...those disney people are geniuses!

making memories!

next we headed to the mickey's philharmagic 4d show.
here are drew and max rocking their 3d glasses!

we all met up for lunch at "be our guest" at the beast's castle.
max had to have his picture taken with this "lion."
the inside looked amazing.  all of the food was cleverly themed and quite tasty.
the room that we ate in was the ballroom and it looked like it was snowing outside the windows.
after lunch we headed to pirates of the caribbean!
i remember riding this over and over as a kid with my brother.  it was his favorite and was definitely a hit with our little pirate.

i got a little sun burnt so i had to purchase a shirt.  i ended up with a cute mickey pirate shirt!
it's a kids size, so someday it can be passed onto max!
that day we also rode the big thunder mountain railroad, its a small world and then thankfully had "fast passes" for peter pan because the wait was over an hour.
waiting to ride on his peter pan ship!

we ended our day with an adventure on the swiss family robinson tree house and dole whips!
