sleep study...

max and i headed to milwaukee last wednesday evening for a sleep study.
his pulmonary doctor ordered this test for him.
he has HUGE tonsils and they wanted to test to see if they are interfering with his breathing.
removing tonsils is a much more routine procedure than opening an airway.
so, if that can help things, then we are open to it.

here is our little man as they started to put on the electrodes.
9 in his hair, 4 on his face, 2 on his chest, and two on his legs.
then there were two belts around his chest and a oxygen sensor on his toe.

we were watching nemo so that was helping to keep him distracted.
they then added that red thing under his nose.
the nurse explained it to max really well.
she said it was like a kitty's whiskers.

he was doing really well until this point.
then they put the oxygen nasal cannula on him.
he was not a fan.
he wanted to take it off.
i told him if he was a big boy and left everything alone, he could get a new toy the next day.
bribery, maybe?  i choose to call it "incentive!" :)

our brave little boy gave me a thumbs up!
it was bed time.
it took him much longer to fall asleep than usual.
he was exhausted but very distracted.
the nurses woke me up at 5:40 to warn me that they had to give max a finger poke.
he did great but was pretty shocked with the "red things" all over his hand.
he calls blood "red things"...it makes me smile.

and on our way out of the hospital...our usual photo op with the giant yellow giraffe.
we've been snapping this picture since day 28 when we brought max home! :)

we should have some information in 7-10 days.
not sure what that means.
i'll keep you posted.

lindsay's bridal shower...

we pulled a bridal shower together in a few weeks for lindsay.
she is a weekend anchor in lansing and was able to get a weekend off!

thanks to my mom for making all the food and to diane and hannah for helping get things set up!

hannah and diane!

my mommy and me!

the spread!

dessert table...mmmmmm!

favors.  lindsay loves coffee so i found some cute mugs and filled them with door county coffee (which is where the wedding is taking place!)

after filling our bellies it was game time!

first we played a question game where i had asked lindsay and evan the same questions.
i read the question and an answer to the group.
they had to guess if was lindsay's answer (and hold up a tiara) or evan's answer (and hold up a mustache).
it was pretty entertaining!

the whole group!

we played the game where lindsay had to guess the answers to some questions that evan answered about them.  if she got them wrong, she had to add a piece of gum to her mouth.
i'll spare you the pictures...she had to chew a lot of gum!

finally...the ladies were split into two groups.  each group got a pair of shoes and some decorations.
they got a certain amount of time to decorate.
lindsay would then choose a winner and wear them for part of her rehearsal! :)

team lindsay (led by linda, lindsay's mom)

team evan (led by evan's mom cynthia)

lindsay and two of her bridesmaids...me and katie.

and finally the bride-to-be and her future mother-in-law and her mom!

thanks everyone for coming.
it was such a fun evening!

food fair fun...

last sunday we headed to xavier's food fair for some family fun!
it was pouring rain so dada was nice enough to drop us off!
max and i were being silly waiting for dada.

max and dada were hanging out in the auditorium listening to the middle school jazz band

we ate some delicious food.
max had mexian food, i had a greek salad, and drew had some italian!

after we filled our bellies, we went to go check out the game area.
last year, max just looked around and took it all in.
this year he was all about it and wanted to do it all!
spinning the wheel for tickets!

doing the cookie walk with dada!

posing like a big boy for mama on his number!

he was thrilled to win this GIANT cookie!

playing the ball roll game!

and even a trip down the slide!

so fast!

what a FUN day!

i'm a bee...

saturday was the human race.
our theme was "youth go helps me bee-lieve in myself!"
we all dressed as bees and had some great cheers...and it worked because we won the team spirit award for the third year in a row.
here are some pictures from the event.
a big "thank you" to all my family and friends who donated to support youth go!

big boy haircut...

well, we went from this....

to this....

holy moly!  he looks like such a big boy!

and my big boy was beyond excited for our after haircut ritual of sharing a bagel at big apple bagels!

fun in michigan...

max and i had a great time visiting grampa mark, gramps and gg!
max loved playing in grampa mark's basement because there was so much room to run!

we made silly faces...

jumped countless times from the bottom stair!

max was super excited to sit in grampa mark's "race car!"

he did some reading with gramps

showed off his cheeseball grin!

enjoyed a lollipop after gramps and gg took us out to dinner.

got some morning time snuggles in with his momma!

cuddled and read with gg!
checked out gg's owie.
(she had serious foot surgery a few weeks before we visited...and that is why my grandparents are staying with my dad!)
and did lots of playing and being silly!

thanks for the great visit!  we were glad to get to spend time with all of you!

detroit zoo...

on friday morning, max and i headed to the detroit zoo.

here we are in the parking ramp elevator, ready for an adventure.
(i think this is my new favorite picture of us!)

the first place we headed was the reptile house.
there were snakes, lizards, turtles, alligators, crocodiles, frogs....

max thought this skink was pretty cool!

next we checked out some alligators (look at the bottom right corner!)

there was this metal tortoise outside of the reptile house.
max waited very patiently for a turn to sit on it.
i was very impressed with him in doing this.  especially since three little girls totally disregarded him standing there waiting...and their mothers didn't seem to care either as they proceed to take about 25 pictures of the girls sitting on it together.

the lions were very lazy.
the all were laying in the grass soaking up the sun.

another metal animal that max had to sit on and have his picture taken. :)

we saw the giraffes, they were beautiful.
there was even a lady who had a piece of giraffe hide that the kids could feel.
max thought it was pretty awesome.

he needed a break so we sat on a bench.
he really wanted to check out the map!

he was sooooo excited to see the zebras.

every time we saw one of these binocular things...he would pretend it was a camera and take my picture.  that is what he's doing in this photo.

earlier in the day we had passed the carousel and he asked to go for a ride.
i told him if he was a good listener then we could on the way back.
and he was! we bought our ticket and waited in line for our turn.
he watched all the animals go around and around.

and what do you think he picked....
an EAGLE of course.
his second choice, in case the eagle was picked by someone else, was a bat.

the last thing we checked out was the butterfly house and the bird house.
max was determined to catch a butterfly.
at first he was running around chasing them.  then i convinced him to hold out his finger instead.

it was a great morning...and it wore somebody out big time!
